Clinics and Services
Andover Mind is a service which offers advice and information for those who have a mental health problem, or a loved one has. It also offers support and advice who are interested in maintaining or improving their mental well-being.
We have mental health worker who attends the surgery on a Thursday morning to see patients who have been referred by the GP’s.
We have two community midwives who attend the practice three times a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays to undertake one-to-one reviews during pregnancy.
A booking pack will be handed to you at your first appointment which informs you when reviews are due throughout your pregnancy.
Detailed information of the antenatal journey will be provided by the midwife.
If pregnancy is confirmed, you will need to complete a midwife booking form which you can access from the surgery. The midwife will contact you to arrange your first appointment between 8-10 weeks. GP appointments are no longer required to start antenatal care.
If this is an option you are exploring, it is recommended that you have a routine telephone call with Michele Smoker, our lead women’s health practitioner who can discuss your options and give you information on contraception. She will book the appointment at the time of the telephone consultation. If there are not any appointments available at the time of consultation you will be added to a waiting list.
If you require urgent contraception advise including coil fittings, please contact the local sexual health clinic located at Crown Heights in the town centre.
Child Immunisation Appointment
The practice nurse holds a weekly child immunisation clinic by appointment every Thursday afternoon. Appointments can be booked via the receptionists. Babies must have had their six week check by a doctor before they can book into the immunisation clinic.
Contraceptive care is provided by one of nurse practitioners during surgery hours. Pre-bookable appointments are available for our Women’s Health clinics which are run twice a week. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review please complete our online contraceptive pill review form.

Learning Disability Checks
A learning disability annual health check consists of a yearly check- up with the GP and practice nurse, lasting normally between 40 minutes to an hour. The team will take a close look at how a patient is doing and will provide them with the opportunity to ask any questions of anything that may be worrying them.
At a health check, the doctor or nurse will check things like:
- Weight and height
- Blood Pressure
- Smoking status
- What exercise you do
- Ask for a urine sample
- Ask what medicine you take
You can also find more useful services on the NHS North Hampshire CCG website.
NHS Health Checks
You will receive a letter or a text message from the surgery inviting you for a NHS health check. Patients who are 40 and over are eligible for a NHS Health Check. The NHS health checks include:

- Smoking and alcohol status
- General health questions
This appointment is carried out by a nurse or HCA at the surgery.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases
If you think you may have contacted a sexually transmitted disease such as Chlamydia, Syphilis or Gonorrhea, it is best to go to the Genito-urinary Clinic at North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke. You can check symptoms on the NHS website. They can quickly do all the necessary tests, organise contact tracing where necessary, and quickly provide all of the treatment necessary. They operate a very good service, and it is completely anonymous.
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes, and residents of nursing and rest homes. Please contact the reception staff from mid September onwards for details and to make an appointment.
